GAME
EXHIBITION OF ARTWORKS CREATED DURING
OCCCUPATIONAL WORKSHOPS HELD IN RECEPTION
CENTERS IN SOMBOR, ŠID AND SUBOTICA 2022 – 2023
ABOUT THE PROJECT
“On the coast of Turkey they stuffed some twenty people into a boat the size of a bed. They started the motor for them and pushed them off into the Mediterranean waves. About midnight the motor stalled, the water began to wash over the boat. Panic broke out.”
“In the hell of the prison in Damascus, food and water were limited: a piece of bread, one olive and a slice of cheese for the day. The cold only intensified the pain of the beatings we received daily.”
“To get from Iran to Turkey we crossed three high mountains, walking non-stop for fourteen hours in snow up to our knees.”
“I don’t feel as though I am living. I don’t want to take anything that doesn’t belong to me, I want to finish school, work, be a useful member of a society without war and to live a modest life with my family. If I got asylum in Serbia I would be happy to study at university here.”
These are just some of the statements of people who pass through our country in the hope of securing a dignified life for themselves and their families. At the station “Srbija” they stop to rest and go to another GAME.
We spent the days before the game together at occupation workshops, trying to capture their attention with some beautiful colors, bring back a smile for a moment, provide shelter, make tea…
As a result of our work, we bring you an exhibition with works created at the workshops that were held in the Reception Centers in Sombor, Šid and Subotica.
The project “Humanitarian Assistance and Protection Related Interventions to People on the Move in Serbia”was implemented in two phases. The first phase was implemented in the period from March 2022 – January 2023 and the second from February – September 2023. The goal of the project is to contribute to reducing the vulnerability of migrants who are in reception, asylum and transit centers in Serbia through direct humanitarian aid and providing access to psychosocial support, organizing occupation workshops.
The project was implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization
with the financial assistance of the HEKS/EPER from Switzerland.
